Bridgford Gleason & Artinian File First Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against MGM and Live Nation in Las Vegas Shooting

Posted on 10/17/17 News

LOS ANGELES, CA – Bridgford Gleason & Artinian has filed a wrongful death lawsuit today on behalf of the father of Andrea Castilla who died while attending the Route 91 Festival in Vegas on October 1, 2017. The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court against MGM Resorts International, Mandalay Corp., Live Nation Entertainment, Slide Fire Solutions, as well as the Estate of Stephen Paddock. Ms. Castilla, an Orange County, California resident, was twenty-eight years old at the time of her death.

The Castilla family’s attorney, Richard Bridgford, opined that the hotel, the security companies for the hotel and concert, the companies that set up the venue for the concert, and the Bump stock manufacturer which allowed the gun to function as an unlawful automatic weapon are responsible for Ms. Castilla’s death.

“This is a clear case of negligence,” says Bridgford. “Individuals who attend such venues have a right to a secure and safe environment. When a situation like this occurs, the companies responsible for protecting their patrons should be held liable.”

The complaint alleges MGM, Mandalay Corp., Live Nation Entertainment, Slide Fire Solutions (the manufacturers, designers, and distributers of Bump stocks) and the Estate of Stephen Paddock, contributed to the circumstances that led to Ms. Castilla’s wrongful death through negligence, battery, assault, infliction of emotional distress, gross negligence, and product liability.

“It’s heartbreaking as it was clearly avoidable,” said Richard Bridgford. “The shooter should never have been allowed in the hotel with the armory he had and should never have been able to deliver his rapid fire barrage after admitted. As for the actual concert, poor security created a killing zone.”

Richard Bridgford and Michael Artinian of Bridgford Gleason & Artinian LLP filed the case along with Patrick McNicholas of McNicholas & McNicholas LLP in Los Angeles.
